Panel Discussion by Faculty of Business Economists on Current Economic Challenges

As part of the leading role of universities in developing individuals and shaping societal awareness, and in continuation of Yarmouk University’s commitment to addressing key issues affecting the region in general and Jordan as an integral part of its Arab surroundings, the Faculty of Business, in cooperation with the Department of Economics, organized a panel discussion entitled: “The U.S.-Israeli War on Iran and Its Implications for the Global Economy.”

During the session, the speakers examined the economic repercussions of the conflict through three dimensions: global, regional, and local. At the global level, the discussion focused on the resilience of the world economy in the face of a potential resurgence or escalation of the conflict, particularly if it were to persist for an extended period or expand geographically. The speakers also highlighted the uneven impact of the crisis on economies across different countries.

At the regional level, the discussion addressed the implications of the crisis for the Arab world in both the short and medium term, as well as the options available to countries in the region amid the economic realities imposed by the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which plays a critical role in both the global economy and the economies of the region.

In the final segment of the session, the focus shifted to the potential impact of the conflict on the Jordanian economy and the measures required to mitigate its effects and ensure that the country navigates the crisis with minimal economic costs.

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, during which students interacted actively with the speakers in a positive and stimulating atmosphere. The discussion underscored the importance of sustaining such activities, which contribute to enhancing students’ analytical capabilities and enabling them to better understand and engage with global developments in ways that complement their academic specializations.
