As part of Yarmouk University’s vision to enhance financial and legal awareness among its students and to reinforce its academic role in keeping pace with contemporary economic developments, the Faculty of Business, represented by the Department of Accounting, organized a specialized awareness seminar on Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crimes. The event was held under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Yahya Bani Melhem, and was delivered by financial crime expert Mr. Ghaith Nusairat and moderated by Dr. Mohammad Al-Tamimi, in the presence of a distinguished group of academics, students, and professionals interested in the banking sector.
During the seminar, Nusairat provided a comprehensive overview of money laundering operations and their direct and indirect impacts on the Jordanian economy. He explained the various stages through which such activities are conducted, the mechanisms behind their formation and expansion, and the most effective approaches for prevention and mitigation.
He further presented practical real-life cases illustrating the connection between financial crimes, fraudulent activities, and illicit sources of funds. He emphasized the importance of enhancing professional preparedness and vigilance in detecting suspicious financial transactions and handling them responsibly, thereby strengthening the resilience and stability of the financial system.
For his part, Dr. Al-Tamimi stressed that the seminar offers an integrated knowledge framework that benefits students through three key dimensions. The first focuses on enhancing their awareness as individuals in protecting their financial transactions from fraud risks. The second aims at increasing their readiness for the labor market by developing competencies in compliance and risk management. The third seeks to deepen their academic understanding of governance, control, and disclosure concepts within the field of accounting. He also highlighted the importance of continuously aligning academic curricula with emerging regulatory and legislative developments to ensure that educational outcomes remain consistent with professional requirements and international standards.
This seminar forms part of a series of high-quality initiatives implemented by the Faculty of Business to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, while preparing qualified national talents capable of meeting the demands of the modern economy with professionalism, competence, and excellence.
